2019 marked the inaugural Australian Gin Day - the first annual celebration of Australia's wonderful distillers, distilleries and gins. The day aims to bring gin lovers together to enjoy Australian gins at home, at local bars and at local distilleries, and to share these gins with the rest of the gin world. 

In 2019 and 2020, AGD was all about discovery, spreading the word and enjoyment of Australian gin. The day was a huge celebration and success, with involvement from over 100 distilleries/gin brands, bars, retailers/liquor stores, influential gin bloggers, events across Australia, hundreds of social media posts, plus many AGD tasting menus, special offers, cocktail creations, and even an Australian Gin Day donut!

This established a fantastic foundation for an even bigger celebration in 2021 and 2022 with widespread coverage on TV, radio and other media too, and we're excited for more celebrations in 2023.

International Gin and Tonic Day celebrates the world’s most popular cocktail on 19 October each year.

We'll be celebrating with a large one - will you?

G&T Day History

It was founded in honour of gin lover Mary Edith Keyburn, who passed away aged 95 on that date in 2010 with a G&T in a teacup by her bedside in hospital in the USA.

According to her friends who established the day in her memory, Edith was ‘a remarkable woman who loved to have the occasional tipple of gin and tonic’.

Her family smuggled the G&T into hospital in a water bottle and hid it in plain sight in a teacup.

That's the way at least one York Gin director wants to go!

Starting with family and friends, the International Gin and Tonic Day Facebook page was established in 2012. Over the following years, it then spread from the US East Coast to the rest of the world.

What to do on 19 October?

Organisers ask gin and tonic drinkers to post phots of themselves enjoying their G&T and to tell everyone where in the world they are. - Don’t forget to tag us and let us know your favorite drop!

The current record stands at participants from 22 countries.

This year, we’re bringing the event to the iconic Little Creatures Brewery in Geelong for a convenient and unforgettable experience.
Explore some of the best local wineries with 60+ wines on pour, along with guest distilleries, and breweries, all under one roof. Savour the flavours and discover your favourites while enjoying live music and DJs throughout the day.

The Torquay Farmers Market is every Saturday, morning from 8.30am to 1.00pm in the carpark of the Surf Coast Shire Offices. This popular weekly market celebrates fresh local foods and artisan produce.

Deep coloured, ripe and delicious fruit and vegetables, aromatic hand-made cakes and jams, freshly laid free range eggs and just cut flowers are only a few of the sumptuous goods you’ll find at our monthly Gasworks Farmers’ Market, held on the third Saturday of each month. .

You will love spending Saturday mornings on the grass soaking up the vibrant atmosphere and sampling the very best of local Victorian produce, direct from Victorian farmers and specialty makers.

Gasworks Farmers’ Market is proudly accredited by the Victorian Farmers Market Association (VFMA) and our market received the Outstanding Farmers’ Market Award at the 2012 delicious. Produce Awards.

The Gasworks Resident Artist Studios are also open during the Farmers Market, so make sure you pop in and say hello!

Alphington Farmers Market is held on the grounds the Melbourne Farmers Market HQ and our community food hub. This exciting initiative is a transformation from old Council offices and a barren concrete scape that used to be on this site, to a productive community meeting place.
